Adventures in Taste

Just
when you thought it couldn't be more beautiful, or you couldn't be
having more fun, an evening in the company of the talented staff of
Cafe Kandahar will change your mind. The savory delights of Cafe
Kandahar's regular menus read like adventure itineraries in taste, with
such offerings as black peppercorn and raisin French toast with
housemade peach-thyme syrup, or wild boar noisettes in juniper-sherry
creme.
Nestled at the base of Big Mountain, Cafe Kandahar delights visitors
both summer and winter with perfect mountain breakfasts and inventive
dinners. The real treat, however, are their monthly wine dinners. On
these special evenings restaurant doors close to the public as owner
Bob Riso and Executive Chef Andy Blanton welcome guests into the cozy
alpine dining room for an evening of enjoyment and exploration.
Each dinner has a theme which serves to marry the creative imagination
of the kitchen with the expertise of clever wine pairings. Surrounded
by black and white photos of the history and legends of Big Mountain,
Executive Chef Andy stands before the group to describe and introduce
the culinary choices for the particular evening. His relaxed manner and
personal insights add color and humor to each course. From a
Valentine's evening replete with frog legs and truffle gnocchi, red
beets and lavender butter, to another New Orleans-flavored culinary
excursion highlighted by a melding of Cajun and Creole, guests can
count on continually being pleasantly surprised.
At the start of the evening guests are presented with the selected menu
and a descriptive list of the wines to be served, with spaces to take
notes. Every course explores the history and signature notes of each
wine selection, and there is an opportunity to purchase favorites from
the evening to sample at home.
These special evenings are a labor of love for Cafe Kandahar's talented
and detail-oriented staff. Their dedication to perfection shows in the
flawless service and carefully planned pairings that are characteristic
of every dinner.
And of course it's important to note that this is Northwest Montana,
where making new acquaintances during the night feels like you've been
around lifelong friends. So call 862-6247 to learn more about the 2004
summer season of Cafe Kandahar wine dinners. It just keeps getting
better.
